Welcome to Our Daughter

Elizabeth Yuan Si (thoughtful) Tian (sweetness) Garrett Ham

Born September 9th, 2003 (103 years to the day after Elizabeth H. Odell)

From Nanning - Guangxi Province (we will go get her probably sometime in late September or mid October).

Her nickname is "Tian Tian" (sweetness sweetness) and she lights up when you say it. She was found by a group of people on 9/17/2003 by the side of a road - highway 120 south. Since it is illegal to give up a child for adoption in China, all the children are abandoned, and they are left in places where they will be discovered quickly. In this case, don't think of our type of highways, but rather a road with more pedestrians and bicycles than cars. She had a note attached to her clothes with her birthdate on it. Hopefully we will get to see the note when we are in China, but that's all we know about it at the moment. However, we are lucky to know her real birthday, since it is a guess for many children.

She was healthy when she was found and had been caried to full term and was well cared for. She has been in foster care since 11/26/2003. Foster mothers are often orphanage workers, and our daughter probably spends her days at the orphanage and goes home to her foster family in the early evening. The foster mother has this to say about our lovely daughter: "She loves to be held and carried and will put her head on your shoulder and give you kisses. If you have something to do, she will play by herself in a little bouncy chair. She plays with her foster siblings on the couch and tries to talk to them. She is very active and energetic. She smiles all the time. Her favorite toy is a colorful rattle and her favorite activity is doing anything outdoors. She is so lovely." We couldn't agree more.
